Casting Call for Leading Ladies

As a writer, one thing that really helps me is having a picture of what I visualize my female lead character to look like. Having a face from a magazine, catalog, or the internet helps me to see my character more clearly. So far I have one manuscript completed, and my main character in this novel is a female drummer. I’ve written her character to be driven and determined without being overbearing. She’s funny at times in an off-wit kind of way and she’s attractive without being self-obsessed. As I wrote the novel I pictured the actress Paula Patton playing the lead role if the book were ever adapted into movie. If you saw the movie Deja’vu you’ll remember she played opposite Denzel Washington in the fast-paced thriller. Also, she did a good job in the movie Idlewild starring Andre “Andre 3000” Benjamin and Antwan A. Patton “Big Boi”.

Soooo all if this brings me to my question for you. If you were the casting director for a movie made about either one of your books or your own life, who would you choose as your leading lady?

Wednesday at the Movies…Today’s Feature – Laws of Attraction

As many of you may know, I love romantic comedies. My poor hubby has to leave the room when I’m completely immersed in a chick movie because he’d rather have a root canal than stay and watch one of these films. But I can’t help myself. I really enjoy the fun of romantic comedies, which is odd, considering I tend to read very little romance. Go figure…

Anywho, a few weeks I was at the store and I stumbled across a bin of DVD movies for four dollars. Right on top of the pile was the movie Laws of Attraction, and I remembered seeing the movie on our flight to Mexico a few years ago. Since I enjoyed the in-flight movie I decided I’d buy the DVD and watch the movie again at home. What a cute story!

Laws of Attraction stars Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the movie, here is the DVD description. “Romance has never been funnier in this battle of wits and will. For Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) and Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan), competition in the courtroom makes them New York’s top-notch divorce attorneys. But when celebrity clients (Parker Posey and Michael Sheen) raise the stakes in their nasty divorce, Audrey and Daniel set out on a trip to make their case, and end up hitched themselves! Now, to spare their own professional reputations, they must fool people into believing they’re actually in love…or are they fooling themselves?”

If you’re in the mood for a good romantic comedy you might want to pick this one up or rent it one weekend. If you do see this movie, be sure to let me know if you enjoyed it.
